Royal Icing

Royal Icing

Royal Icing is a standard general purpose recipe for those who are creating edible items for the holidays. This basic icing will let you paint smiles on the faces of all your boys and girls and build the foundations for your very own dream gingerbread house, although the icing also works well on other edible crafts.

Ingredients

1-1/2 cups (375 mL) powdered sugar
1 egg white
1/2 tsp. (2 mL) lemon juice

Cooking Instructions

Whip all the ingredients together in a medium size bowl until light and fluffy. The longer you beat the icing, the better it will turn out.

If desired, you can add food coloring to the icing for a variety of fun colors for your project. When not using the icing, enclose it with a tight cover or covered with plastic wrap to keep the icing from drying out until the next time you are ready for your next edible decorating project.
