Christmas Craft

Christmas is approaching fast so we thought we’d add some Christmas craft to get you ready for Santa’s impending visit. A Christmas stocking is a must in almost every household at Xmas time especially those families who have children excitedly counting down to Xmas day. Here is a quick and easy Christmas stocking you can make using small pieces of material.
Crazy Patchwork Quilted Christmas Stocking with Ribbing Cuff – Part 1
Materials
1/2 metre or two 50 x 30 cm pieces red or green homespun or other cotton material, length of batting (fusible if possible)
Pieces of red, green and gold Christmas patterned materials of various sizes to cover the front of the stocking.
38cm piece of 16 cm wide red, green or white ribbing for the stocking top.
Method

Cut two stocking shapes from red or green material.

Cut one stocking shape from batting.
Fix the batting shape to the right side of one of the stocking shapes; if using non adhesive batting tack the pieces together using large stitches.

Select pieces of fabric for the crazy patchwork.
Beginning at the top of the stocking lay the pieces on the batting to obtain the desired pattern effect. A large motif is a good way of covering some of the stocking but be sure to centre it.
Once you have a selection which pleases you, begin to attach the pieces, pinning them on to overlap each other and with the overlapping top edge of the next piece turned under, ready to be stitched down.
Make sure that all the raw edges are covered, pieces of tartan, or other fancy ribbon can be used also to cover the raw edges.
The next stage of making your Crazy Patchwork Stocking is to stich it all together. You can find all the instructions in my next post Christmas Stocking Craft.
