Easter Cupcakes

A very special treat that kids of all ages enjoy on Easter are Easter cupcakes. These can be made in a variety of ways and they can even be purchased from your local grocery store bakery. But if you really want to get involved in making these cupcakes as fun and special as possible, you should get some cake mix and decorations so that you and your kids can make them together.

Making cupcakes is easy

It really is quite easy. All you need is a couple of boxes of cake mix, or more depending on how many cupcakes you plan to make. You can use white, yellow, or chocolate cake mix along with some white frosting. Easter cupcakes can be decorated with different colored frosting that has food coloring added to it, so if you are out of food coloring you will want to pick up a box of those as well. Buy a can of coconut, jelly beans, and vanilla wafer cookies.

Now all you need is to make the cake mix according to the directions on the box and pop your cupcakes into the oven. Once they have completed baking, take them out of the oven and let them cool completely. While you are waiting on your Easter cupcakes to cool, mix the frosting with food coloring in various colors of green, pink, yellow, or any other colors you want to use.

How to get creative with cupcakes

To make miniature “Easter baskets” from your cupcakes, take a butter knife and apply green frosting to the top of the cupcake. Next, sprinkle some of the coconut on and apply more green frosting. This makes it look like grass on the cupcake. Decorate the top with an assortment of egg shaped jelly beans and there you have Easter basket cupcakes. You may use small pipe cleaners for handles if you wish.

If you want to make bunny Easter cupcakes, you can choose to use the pink or yellow icing or just leave it white. Use two jelly beans to form eyes and short pieces of coconut to make whiskers. You can draw a little bow mouth or use a piece of a jelly bean to make one. For the ears, break a vanilla wafer cookie in half and place each half on either side of the “face” on the cupcake in a standing position.

There are many other Easter designs that can be used to make your special cupcakes but these should get you off to a good start. Children really do enjoy creating these cupcakes and love it even more when you take the time to do it with them.
