Easter Traditions

People all over the world celebrate Easter traditions and there are several of these traditions that go on year after year. Some are funny, cute and frivolous while others are more serious and religious oriented. Either way, they are highly anticipated once the Easter season arrives.

A few of these traditions involve the use of eggs. Children love coloring and hunting hard boiled eggs each Easter. Some of the Easter egg hunts use plastic eggs rather than real ones and are filled with prizes of all sorts. There are many legends surrounding these Easter traditions, depending on where you happen to live. However, these are two of the most popular Easter traditions that are practiced each year.

The Easter Bunny

The delivery of Easter baskets by the Easter Bunny is also another tradition that is honored at Easter. The Easter basket is representative of new life, renewal, and rebirth with its origins in German folklore. While it used to be only colored eggs that the children hunted and put in those baskets, these days they contain everything from chocolate eggs and marshmallow chickens to toys and many things of special interest to the recipients.

There are also religious Easter traditions that are performed each year. One of these is the Easter Sunrise Service. Churches in a community usually organize one large service in a special place so that everyone in the community can attend together. These are typically held out of doors at sunrise, weather permitting. They can be very beautiful and meaningful. These services are also usually followed by an Easter breakfast in which everyone gathers in one place to socialize and enjoy together.

Easter Cantatas

Another tradition is the performance of Easter Cantatas at most churches. These are Easter musicals performed by members of the church various choirs. This is one of the more beautiful Easter traditions as the lovely voices blend together for an angelic chorus of praise.

While these are time honored traditions of Easter, each year people continue  making their own new traditions. There is certainly nothing wrong with this as many of these traditions go on to become new celebrations to add to the already existing ones in each family.

It is rather exciting to see people engaging in a new tradition that you have actually created yourself. As long as you are keeping up with some of the older traditions of this holiday, adding a few new and meaningful Easter traditions to the mix is certainly not a bad thing. In fact, it can become even more meaningful as each year passes.
